| I heard the night wind creep around | B |
| The charcoal sky so diamond bright | C |
| That haunting wind o er Egypt s ground | B |

| And as the eerie moan gave height | C |
| To stir the sand to heap and pile | D |
| O er the tombs of long laid kings | E |
| In limestone vaults beside the Nile | D |
| - | |
| It wailed and mourned for long dead souls | F |
| Laid low in cities of concealed tombs | G |
| In agitated sighs it mooned | C |
| Above the chambers where silence looms | G |
| - | |
| And as I listened I thought of they | H |
| Who once with love and passion slept | C |
| Steeped in knowledge now forgotten | I |
| And with the sorrowful wind I wept | C |
