Desert Cry Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB CDED FGCG HCIC

As I lay swathed in true love s warmthA
I heard the night wind creep aroundB
The charcoal sky so diamond brightC
That haunting wind o er Egypt s groundB
-
And as the eerie moan gave heightC
To stir the sand to heap and pileD
O er the tombs of long laid kingsE
In limestone vaults beside the NileD
-
It wailed and mourned for long dead soulsF
Laid low in cities of concealed tombsG
In agitated sighs it moonedC
Above the chambers where silence loomsG
-
And as I listened I thought of theyH
Who once with love and passion sleptC
Steeped in knowledge now forgottenI
And with the sorrowful wind I weptC
