Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGH HIJJJDKLMN ODPQHRDSJB DHTUVW XDBHHJJYUZA2B2J

A
The moon hummed like a refrigeratorB
light thru shadowsC
the solitude of dusk closing inD
black scars visible acrossE
the moon's face shaped likeF
mountainous hands allG
silent the occasional leaf rustlingH
-
-
My fork at plate's edge listeningH
listening to the haunting one eyeI
on the staircase wall whiteJ
as the numb light outside palest nightJ
Caught off guard the musty setteeJ
and armchair acting as hallucinogenD
to the nostril the calendar of eventsK
playing ghostly tag with sheer curtainsL
hovering shroud like on the family BibleM
big and brown as the Lord's foot stoolN
-
-
The unravelling tale slowly much asO
thick yarn with a kittenD
batting it one event at a timeP
in sepulchre movement down aQ
linoleum floor Two twins burningH
fever scalded in frigid water onlyR
shock setting in dying to joinD
the black creek water from whichS
her unwilling buckets borrowedJ
this liquid crucifixion and bitter vinegarB
-
-
Or the drive house door silent in precisionD
unseen hands before maraudingH
hoofs in unison dark from windows' edgeT
to better hear little poke ofU
sleigh bells or harness rattling grimV
with a sick man's coughW
-
-
This admission of spectral animalsX
somehow more unsettling thanD
the young woman next combing herB
hair at the foot of the bed scaringH
the daylights out of me picturingH
the whereabouts of stockinged feetJ
these tricksters from another worldJ
drum and kettle corps gypsy fifeY
with harbinger doom to rasp ofU
falling broomZ
old and yellow silky straw witch's hairA2
and a cat darkB2
as the Devil's very breadJ
