hear the squeak of brackish waters	G
over crocks of sponge bubbles crabbing	C
their surface	H

I desire stands of dead brush	I
to wave in grave solemnity	J
whimpering little houses	D
off forest glades to flicker	K
out lamps with	L
large dogs poised on verandahs	D
like stone gargoyles	D

I want to handle anguish as if	M
it were an interesting bauble	N
plucked from the shallows	D
a curious snail with ritual markings	D
or a mauve shellfish	O
caught in swift eddies	D
as the tide goes out	P

I want to examine canker introspection	Q
as a peevish child might	R
faint tracings on an old stone	S
lodged in the most forgotten	Q
corner of a graveyard	T
sample its wonders	D
fingering the many indentations	D
with more than slight awe	U
or hear the crashing of waves	D
far off from the physical restraint	V
of the marsh or this forgotten	Q
burial plot so near an angry sea	D
Then awaken as if from a dream	W
rub troubled memories from my eyes	D
but never the brain	X
for on winter nights just before	Y
retiring as the wind stirs packets	D
of snow or the moon is chased	Z
by skeletal hounds along Gretal trees	D
there will come the realization	Q
another day is thru	A2
with another night to pilot away	B2
fresh brush rubble	N
before emerging at night's end	C2
from the clearing that is	D
the trees	D
