King And John Streets (for Isabella Vacancy Crawford) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJ KLMNLOPQRS TUVWVVLVXYV

When the shadows are hungryA
animals on wallsB
and theatre goers areC
parliamentarians engagedD
in a repast or feastE
of wordsF
the lone house standsG
as a stone shard or sliverH
about to disengage itselfI
from the eyeJ
-
For behind boulders of tenementK
walls and vines creepingL
to match the red brick ofM
sumac and the parrot bill of fire escape stairsN
I watch the buildingL
cylindrical in the darknessO
crouching thin airP
as if an awkward childQ
were about to make strangeR
for the dozenth timeS
-
There are few things to duplicateT
plaster held by the bite of windU
open poverty like lesionsV
refusing to moveW
neglect that festersV
to pop the endless seamsV
of the mind like burningL
radiator capsV
scalding water to lightenX
the lanced up eyes of vermin whoY
lather these swollen roomsV
