Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBBCCB DEDEFG HON HER SEVENTEENTH BIRTHDAY | A |
- | |
- | |
Now has rich time brought you a gift of gold | B |
A long sweet year which you can shape at will | C |
And deck with roses warm or with the chill | C |
And heartless lilies GOD gives strength to mould | B |
Our days and lives with fingers firm and bold | B |
And make them noble straight and clean from ill | C |
Though few are willing and their years they fill | C |
With dross which they regret when they are old | B |
- | |
What splendid hours of your life are these | D |
When youth and childhood wander hand in hand | E |
And give you freely all which best can please | D |
Laughter and friends and dreams of Fairyland | E |
Mourn not the seasons past with useless tears | F |
But greet the pleasure of the coming years | G |
