The Dawn Patrol Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCCBA DEAFFED GEEHHEG IJJGGJI KLLMMLK G

Sometimes I fly at dawn above the seaA
Where underneath the restless waters flowB
Silver and cold and slowB
Dim in the East there burns a new born sunC
Whose rosy gleams along the ripples runC
Save where the mist droops lowB
Hiding the level loneliness from meA
-
And now appears beneath the milk white hazeD
A little fleet of anchored ships which lieE
In clustered companyA
And seem as they are yet fast bound by sleepF
Although the day has long begun to peepF
With red inflam d eyeE
Along the still deserted ocean waysD
-
The fresh cold wind of dawn blows on my faceG
As in the sun's raw heart I swiftly flyE
And watch the seas glide byE
Scarce human seem I moving through the skiesH
And far removed from warlike enterpriseH
Like some great gull on highE
Whose white and gleaming wings beat on through spaceG
-
Then do I feel with God quite quite aloneI
High in the virgin morn so white and stillJ
And free from human illJ
My prayers transcend my feeble earth bound plaintsG
As though I sang among the happy SaintsG
With many a holy thrillJ
As though the glowing sun were God's bright ThroneI
-
My flight is done I cross the line of foamK
That breaks around a town of grey and redL
Whose streets and squares lie deadL
Beneath the silent dawn then am I proudM
That England's peace to guard I am allowedM
Then bow my humble headL
In thanks to Him Who brings me safely homeK
-
