Doth stain the fair green grass and daisies white | B |
In generous flood | A |
This sun drowsed day for me is darkest night | B |
O wreck of splintered wood and twisted wire | C |
What blind unmeasured hatred you inspire | D |
Because yours was the power that life to end | E |
Of him who was my friend | E |
- | |
This morn we lay upon the grass | F |
And watched the languid hours pass | F |
A lark deep in the sky's blue sea | G |
Sang ecstasies to him and me | G |
- | |
And with the daisies did he play | H |
As on the waving grass we lay | H |
And made a little daisy chain | I |
To bring his childhood back again | J |
- | |
And while he watched the clouds above | K |
He drifted into thoughts of love | K |
He said I know why skylarks sing | L |
Because they love and it is Spring | L |
- | |
And if I had a voice as they | H |
So would I sing this golden May | H |
Because I love and loved am I | M |
And when I wander through the sky | M |
- | |
I wish I had a skylark's voice | N |
And with such singing could rejoice | N |
Oh happy happy are these days | O |
My heart is full of deep felt praise | O |
- | |
And thanks to God who brings this bliss | P |
Oh what a happiness is this | P |
To lie upon the grass and know | Q |
In two short days that I shall go | Q |
- | |
And see my Love's fair face again | J |
And wander in some flowery lane | I |
Forgetting all the world around | R |
And only knowing I have found | R |

A Spring enchantment which is mine | S |
Through God's sweet sympathy divine | S |
May these two days now swiftly pass | F |
He laughed upon the sunlit grass | F |

The days have passed but passed alas how slow | Q |
See down the road a sad procession go | Q |
Oh hear the wailing music moan | T |
Why Why such grief am I to know | Q |
Dear God I wish I were alone | T |
For by the grave a girl with streaming eyes | U |
Doth make mine dim | V |
While high among the sunny springtime skies | U |
The larks still hymn | V |
