Clouds Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDEFGFGHHIJIJKK LMMLNNOPPQRRSISITTUV UVII I| 'Tis strange to leave this world of woods and hills | A |
| This world of little farms and shady mills | A |
| Of fields and water meadows fair | B |
| Upon some sad and shadowy day | C |
| When all the skies are overcast and grey | C |
| And climb up through the gloomy air | B |
| And ever hurry higher still and higher | D |
| Till underneath you lies a far flung shire | E |
| All sober hued beneath the ceiling pale | F |
| Of crawling clouds whose barrier soon you reach | G |
| And through their clammy vapours swiftly sail | F |
| Their chill defences hoping soon to breach | G |
| To see no skies above no ground below | H |
| And in that nothingness toss to and fro | H |
| Is no sweet moment will it never cease | I |
| Climbing and diving thrown from side to side | J |
| All suddenly there comes a sense of peace | I |
| And o'er a wondrous scenery we glide | J |
| O what a splendour Deep the cloudless blue | K |
| Whose sparkling azure has a gorgeous hue | K |
| On earth you know not flaming bright the sun | L |
| Which shines upon a landscape snowy white | M |
| With all its power of unsullied light | M |
| Deep in the shadowy valleys do we run | L |
| And then above the towering summits soar | N |
| And see for far thrown miles yet more and more | N |
| Great mountain ranges rolling white and soft | O |
| With shadowy passes cool and huge and dim | P |
| Where surely angels wander as they hymn | P |
| Their happy songs which wing their way aloft | Q |
| To Him who made the sun the azure deep | R |
| And all this gleaming land of peace and sleep | R |
| Alone I wander o'er this virgin land | S |
| All all for me below the ploughman plods | I |
| Along his furrows and with restless hand | S |
| The sower hurls his seed among the clods | I |
| They cannot see the sun grey is their sky | T |
| I see the sun the heaven's blue on high | T |
| But I am human and must e'en descend | U |
| I bid farewell to all this lovely scene | V |
| And plunge deep in a cloud When will it end | U |
| This hazy voyage See the chequered green | V |
| The scattered farmsteads and the quiet sea | I |
| Sunless and dim come hurrying up to me | I |
