IN companies or loneA
They bend their heads their handsB
They busy with their gearC
Accomplishing the stitchD
That turns the stocking heelE
Or closes up the toeF
These knitters at their doorsG
Their talk 's of nothing elseH
But what was told beforeI
Sundown and gone sundownJ
While goats bleat from the hillK
And men are tramping homeL
By knitters at their doorsG
And we who go this wayM
A benediction takeN
From hands that ply this taskO
For the ten thousandth timeP
Of knitters at their doorsG
Since we who deem our daysQ
Most varied come to ownA
That all the works we doR
Repeat a wonted toilS
May it be done as theirsT
Who turn the stocking heelE
And close the stocking toeF
With grace and in contentU
These knitters at their doorsG
The CharmV
Uisge cloiche gan irraidhU
-
WATER I did not seek youR
Water of hollow stoneA
I crossed no one's acre to find youR
You were where my geese lie downJ
-
I dip my fingers and sprinkleW
While three times over I sayM
'Chance bound and chance found waterX
Can take a numbness away '-
-
The numbness that leaves me vacantU
Of thought and will and deedU
Like the moveless clock that I gaze onY
It will go where the ravens breedU
-
I empty the stone on the morrowF
I shall rise with spirit aliveZ
Gallant amongst the gallantU
I shall speak and lead and striveZ
-
In search there is no warrantU
By chance is the charm shownA
Water I did not seek youR
Water of hollow stoneA
