An Old Song Re-sung Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDAD EFGFGGHAH GIJIKLLML LLLLGNOGO

As I went down through Dublin cityA
At the hour of twelve of the nightB
Who did I see but a Spanish ladyA
Washing her feet by candle lightB
First she washed themC
Then she dried themC
All by a fire of amber coalsD
In all my life I never did seeA
A maid so neat about the solesD
-
I asked her would she come a walkingE
And we went on where the small bats flewF
A coach I called then to instate herG
And on we went till the grey cocks crewF
Combs of amberG
In her hair wereG
And her eyes had every spellH
In all my life I never did seeA
A maid whom I could love so wellH
-
But when I came to where I found herG
And set her down from the halted coachI
Who was there waiting his arms foldedJ
But that fatal swordsman Tiger RoacheI
Then blades were outK
And 'twas thrust and cutL
And never wrist gave me more affrightL
Till I lay low upon the floorM
Where she stood holding the candle lightL
-
But O ye bucks of Dublin cityL
If I should see at twelve of the nightL
In any chamber such lovely ladyL
Washing her feet by candle lightL
And drying o'erG
Soles neat as hersN
All by a fire of amber coalO
Your blades be dimmed I'd whisper herG
And take her for a midnight strollO
