From converse and dancing he drew meC
And across the doorB

Ah strange were the dim wide meadowsD
And strange was the cloud strewn skyE
And strange in the meadows the corncrakesD
And they making cryE

The hawthorn bloom was by usD
Around us the breath of the southF
White hawthorn strange in the night timeG
His kiss on my mouthF
