A Drover Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH HJKJ ALML NOPO JCQC CCRR OORR

To meath of the pasturesA
From wet hills by the seaB
Through Leitrim and LongfordC
Go my cattle and meB
-
I hear in the darknessD
Their slipping and breathingE
I name them the bye waysF
They're to pass without heedingE
-
Then the wet winding roadsG
Brown bogs with black waterH
And my thoughts on white shipsI
And the King o' Spain's daughterH
-
O farmer strong farmerH
You can spend at the fairJ
But your face you must turnK
To your crops and your careJ
-
And soldiers red soldiersA
You've seen many landsL
But you walk two by twoM
And by captain's commandsL
-
O the smell of the beastsN
The wet wind in the mornO
And the proud and hard earthP
Never broken for cornO
-
And the crowds at the fairJ
The herds loosened and blindC
Loud words and dark facesQ
And the wild blood behindC
-
O strong men with your bestC
I would strive breast to breastC
I could quiet your herdsR
With my words with my wordsR
-
I will bring you my kineO
Where there's grass to the kneeO
But you'll think of scant croppingsR
Harsh with salt of the seaR
