The Portrait In The Rock Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIAJKLMBNOGPQ RDOSTU

Oh yes I knew him I spent years with himA
with his golden and stony substanceB
he was a man who was tiredC
in Paraguay he left his father and motherD
his sons his nephewsE
his latest in lawsF
his house his chickensG
and some half opened booksH
They called him to the doorI
When he opened it the police took himA
and they beat him up so muchJ
that he spat blood in France in DenmarkK
in Spain in Italy moving aboutL
and so he died and I stopped seeing his faceM
stopped hearing his profound silenceB
then once on a night of stormsN
with snow spreadingO
a smooth cloak on the mountainsG
on horseback there far offP
I looked and there was my friendQ
his face was formed in stoneR
his profile defied the wild weatherD
in his nose the wind was mufflingO
the moaning of the persecutedS
There the exile came to groundT
Changed into stone he lives in his own countryU
