Lost In The Forest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFBB CBG GHI

Lost in the forest I broke off a dark twigA
and lifted its whisper to my thirsty lipsB
maybe it was the voice of the rain cryingC
a cracked bell or a torn heartD
-
Something from far off it seemedE
deep and secret to me hidden by the earthF
a shout muffled by huge autumnsB
by the moist half open darkness of the leavesB
-
Wakening from the dreaming forest there the hazel sprigC
sang under my tongue its drifting fragranceB
climbed up through my conscious mindG
-
as if suddenly the roots I had left behindG
cried out to me the land I had lost with my childhoodH
and I stopped wounded by the wandering scentI
