The names of God and especially those of His representativeA
Who is called Jesus or Christ according to holy books andB
someone's mouthC
These names have been used worn out and leftD
On the shores of rivers of of human livesE
Like the empty shells of a molluskF
However when we touch these sacred but exhaustedG
Names these wounded scattered petalsH
Which have come out of the oceans of love and fearI
Something still remains a sip of waterJ
A rainbow footprint that still shimmers in the lightK
While the names of God were usedL
By the best and the worst by the clean and the dirtyM
By the white and the black by bloody murderersN
And by victims flaming gold with napalmO
While Nixon with his handsP
Of Cain blessed those whom he condemned to deathQ
While fewer and fewer divine footprints were foundR
on the beachS
People began to study colorsN
The future of honey the sign of uraniumT
They looked with anxiety and hope for the possibilitiesU
Of killing themselves or not killing themselves of organizingV
themselves into a fabricW
Of going further on of breaking through limits without stoppingV
-
What we came across in these blood thirsty timesX
With their smoke of burning trash their dead ashesY
As we weren't able to stop lookingV
We often stopped to look at the names of GodZ
We lifted them with tenderness because they reminded usA2
Of our ancestors of the first people those who said the prayersB2
Those who discovered the hymn that united them in misfortuneC2
And now seeing the empty fragments which sheltered thoseD2
ancient peopleE2
We feel those smooth substancesY
Worn out and used up by good and by evilE2
