Ghosts of the finicking high life sort | A |
Are growing a trifle cheap | B |
But here is a spook of another stamp | C |

But a spectre who fears not dirt nor damp | C |
He rides on a London tram | D |

By the curious glance of a mortal eye | E |
He is not seen He's heard | F |
His steps go a creeping creeping by | E |
He speaks but a single word | F |
You may hear his feet you may hear them plain | G |
For it's odd in a ghost they crunch | H |
You may hear the whirr of his rattling chain | G |
And the ting of his ringing punch | H |

The gathering shadows of night fall fast | I |
The lamps in the street are lit | J |
To the roof have the eerie footsteps passed | I |
Where the outside passengers sit | J |
To the passenger's side has the spectre paced | K |
For a moment he halts they say | L |
Then a ring from the punch at the unseen waist | K |
And the footsteps pass away | L |

And if on that car you ride | N |
You won't believe me have journeyed far | M |
Ere the spectre seeks your side | N |
Ay all unseen by your seat he'll stand | O |
And unless it's a wig your hair | P |
Will rise at the touch of his icy hand | O |
And the sound of his whispered Fare | P |

Ask who is the ghost and why | E |
