The Decembrist Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH HIHJ KILI HMNI OIHD

'To this the pagan senate bears witnessA
THESE DEEDS SHALL NEVER DIE 'B
He lit his pipe and wrapped his cloak aroundC
While some play chess nearbyD
-
He traded his ambitious dreamE
For a godforsaken Siberian plotF
And an elegant pipe at his venomous lipsG
Which uttered truth in a mournful worldH
-
When the German oaks first rustledH
Europe wept in her snareI
Black horses in quadrigae rearedH
on each triumphant turnJ
-
Once the blue punch glowed in our glassesK
With the broad noises of the samovarI
A friend from across the Rhine spokeL
In muted tones a freedom loving guitarI
-
The lively voices are still excitedH
Over the sweet liberty of citizenshipM
But the victims don't want blind skiesN
Toil and consistency are truerI
-
Everything's confused and there is no one to sayO
As things grow colderI
Everything's confused it is sweet to repeatH
