The Age Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDEFE GHIJKLGM NOPOQRSR TUTUVWXW

My beast my age who will tryA
to look you in the eyeA
and weld the vertebraeB
of century to centuryC
with blood Creating bloodD
pours out of mortal thingsE
only the parasitic shudderF
when the new world singsE
-
As long as it still has lifeG
the creature lifts its boneH
and along the secret lineI
of the spine waves foamJ
Once more life s crownK
like a lamb is sacrificedL
cartilage under the knifeG
the age of the new bornM
-
To free life from jailN
and begin a new absoluteO
the mass of knotted daysP
must be linked by means of a fluteO
With human anguishQ
the age rocks the wave s massR
and the golden measure s hissedS
by a viper in the grassR
-
And new buds will swell intactT
the green shoots engageU
but your spine is crackedT
my beautiful pitiful ageU
And grimacing dumbly you writheV
look back feebly with cruel jawsW
a creature once supple and litheX
at the tracks left by your pawsW
