Quantum Mutata Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEDFC

There was a time in Europe long agoA
When no man died for freedom anywhereB
But England's lion leaping from its lairB
Laid hands on the oppressor it was soA
While England could a great Republic showA
Witness the men of Piedmont chiefest careB
Of Cromwell when with impotent despairB
The Pontiff in his painted porticoA
Trembled before our stern ambassadorsC
How comes it then that from such high estateD
We have thus fallen save that LuxuryE
With barren merchandise piles up the gateD
Where noble thoughts and deeds should enter byF
Else might we still be Milton's heritorsC
