Le Panneau Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG IJJI KLLM NOON ABBA

Under the rose tree's dancing shadeA
There stands a little ivory girlB
Pulling the leaves of pink and pearlB
With pale green nails of polished jadeA
-
The red leaves fall upon the mouldC
The white leaves flutter one by oneD
Down to a blue bowl where the sunD
Like a great dragon writhes in goldC
-
The white leaves float upon the airE
The red leaves flutter idly downF
Some fall upon her yellow gownF
And some upon her raven hairE
-
She takes an amber lute and singsG
And as she sings a silver craneH
Begins his scarlet neck to strainH
And flap his burnished metal wingsG
-
She takes a lute of amber brightI
And from the thicket where he liesJ
Her lover with his almond eyesJ
Watches her movements in delightI
-
And now she gives a cry of fearK
And tiny tears begin to startL
A thorn has wounded with its dartL
The pink veined sea shell of her earM
-
And now she laughs a merry noteN
There has fallen a petal of the roseO
Just where the yellow satin showsO
The blue veined flower of her throatN
-
With pale green nails of polished jadeA
Pulling the leaves of pink and pearlB
There stands a little ivory girlB
Under the rose tree's dancing shadeA
