The Thames nocturne of blue and goldA
Changed to a Harmony in greyB
A barge with ochre coloured hayB
Dropt from the wharf and chill and coldA

The yellow fog came creeping downC
The bridges till the houses' wallsD
Seemed changed to shadows and St Paul'sD
Loomed like a bubble o'er the townC

Then suddenly arose the clangE
Of waking life the streets were stirredF
With country waggons and a birdF
Flew to the glistening roofs and sangE

But one pale woman all aloneG
The daylight kissing her wan hairH
Loitered beneath the gas lamps' flareH
With lips of flame and heart of stoneG
