He varnished second of the seventh winterB
The north went frozen and media lost her voiceC
And the fading day startled winter coldD
For man that glitters gold lost his poiseE
Although deep in hearts of a desert landF
His heart went still on his ailment demandF
-
Afar from his demiseG
South fled east above the westH
Hitting the North right in her chestH
As truths journeyed out the skiesG
Lies put on their shoes in their nestsI
By virtue of hymn and weeping thoughtsJ
An orator was emptied of his wordsK

You were black like usL
Your words lived it allM
You were crystal and clearN
Even the air had to fallM
-
Yusuf traversed the landscape of giantO
To carve a folk self reliantO
He never was defiantO
But his words spurred inaneP
Minds into brainsQ
And sear gassy hearts to grainsQ
You said no gain without painP
I wish the folk trailed that laneP
-
But things fall apartR
And her center doesn't holdD
As looting won her heartR
Depravity unwilling to foldD

-
From dusts we have comeS
And dusts we shall becomeS
Someday death diesG
But this day marks your turnT
-
Oh earth lay your bedU
Yusuf Maitama is laid to restH
The Nigerian voice set to lieA
Barren in words speechlessL
-
Sagacious shameV
Peers from every black faceW
Sneers from the other raceW
Audacious gameV
-
Tow an elder tow statesmanX
Trail his thoughts and travailsY
Into the hearts of a virgin landF
Else weaker truth prevailsY
-
In the heart of the desertZ
Let the hymnals departR
In the silence of the nightA2
Let his quiet grave igniteA2
