Youth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJKJLMLM

WHY linger round the sunken wrecksA
Where old Armadas found their gravesB
Why slumber on the sleepy decksA
While foam and clash the angry wavesB
Up when the storm blast rends the cloudsC
And winged with ruin sweeps the galeD
Young feet must climb the quivering shroudsC
Young hands must reef the bursting sailD
-
Leave us to fight the tyrant creedsE
Who felt their shackles feel their scarsF
The cheerful sunlight little heedsE
The brutes that prowled beneath the starsF
The dawn is here the day star showsG
The spoils of many a battle wonH
But sin and sorrow still are foesG
That face us in the morning sunH
-
Who sleeps beneath yon bannered moundI
The proudly sorrowing mourner seeksJ
The garland bearing crowd surroundsK
A light haired boy with beardless cheeksJ
'T is time this 'fallen world' should riseL
Let youth the sacred work beginM
What nobler task what fairer prizeL
Than earth to save and Heaven to winM
