Welcome To The Grand Duke Alexis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B ACAC ADAD EFEG HIHI

MUSIC HALL DECEMBERA
-
Sung to the Russian national air by the children of the public schoolsB
-
SHADOWED so long by the storm cloud of dangerA
Thou whom the prayers of an empire defendC
Welcome thrice welcome but not as a strangerA
Come to the nation that calls thee its friendC
-
Bleak are our shores with the blasts of DecemberA
Fettered and chill is the rivulet's flowD
Throbbing and warm are the hearts that rememberA
Who was our friend when the world was our foeD
-
Look on the lips that are smiling to greet theeE
See the fresh flowers that a people has strewnF
Count them thy sisters and brothers that meet theeE
Guest of the Nation her heart is thine ownG
-
Fires of the North in eternal communionH
Blend your broad flashes with evening's bright starI
God bless the Empire that loves the Great UnionH
Strength to her people Long life to the CzarI
