To George Peabody Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FGFGHEHE

DANVERSA
-
BANKRUPT our pockets inside outB
Empty of words to speak his praisesC
Worcester and Webster up the spoutB
Dead broke of laudatory phrasesC
Yet why with flowery speeches teaseD
With vain superlatives distress himE
Has language better words than theseD
THE FRIEND OF ALL HIS RACE GOD BLESS HIME
-
A simple prayer but words more sweetF
By human lips were never utteredG
Since Adam left the country seatF
Where angel wings around him flutteredG
The old look on with tear dimmed eyesH
The children cluster to caress himE
And every voice unbidden criesH
THE FRIEND OF ALL HIS RACE GOD BLESS HIME
