Rhyme Scheme: ABCCCB DEFGFE HIJJJI KLMMML NBOOOB PQRRRQ

In poisonous dens where traitors hideA
Like bats that fear the dayB
While all the land our charters claimC
Is sweating blood and breathing flameC
Dead to their country's woe and shameC
The recreants whisper STAYB
-
In peaceful homes where patriot firesD
On Love's own altars glowE
The mother hides her trembling fearF
The wife the sister checks a tearG
To breathe the parting word of cheerF
Soldier of Freedom GoE
-
In halls where Luxury lies at easeH
And Mammon keeps his stateI
Where flatterers fawn and menials crouchJ
The dreamer startled from his couchJ
Wrings a few counters from his pouchJ
And murmurs faintly WAITI
-
In weary camps on trampled plainsK
That ring with fife and drumL
The battling host whose harness gleamsM
Along the crimson flowing streamsM
Calls like a warning voice in dreamsM
We want you Brother COMEL
-
Choose ye whose bidding ye will doN
To go to wait to stayB
Sons of the Freedom loving townO
Heirs of the Fathers' old renownO
The servile yoke the civic crownO
Await your choice To DAYB
-
The stake is laid O gallant youthP
With yet unsilvered browQ
If Heaven should lose and Hell should winR
On whom shall lie the mortal sinR
That cries aloud It might have beenR
God calls you answer NOWQ
