The Girdle Of Friendship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL

SHE gathered at her slender waistA
The beauteous robe she woreB
Its folds a golden belt embracedA
One rose hued gem it boreB
-
The girdle shrank its lessening roundC
Still kept the shining gemD
But now her flowing locks it boundC
A lustrous diademD
-
And narrower still the circlet grewE
Behold a glittering bandF
Its roseate diamond set anewE
Her neck's white column spannedF
-
Suns rise and set the straining claspG
The shortened links resistH
Yet flashes in a bracelet's graspG
The diamond on her wristH
-
At length the round of changes pastI
The thieving years could bringJ
The jewel glittering to the lastI
Still sparkles in a ringJ
-
So link by link our friendships partK
So loosen break and fallL
A narrowing zone the loving heartK
Lives changeless through them allL
