WHAT flower is this that greets the mornA
Its hues from Heaven so freshly bornA
With burning star and flaming bandB
It kindles all the sunset landB
Oh tell us what its name may beC
Is this the Flower of LibertyC
-
It is the banner of the freeC
The starry Flower of LibertyC
-
In savage Nature's far abodeD
Its tender seed our fathers sowedE
The storm winds rocked its swelling budF
Its opening leaves were streaked with bloodF
Till lo earth's tyrants shook to seeC
The full blown Flower of LibertyC
-
Then hail the banner of the freeC
The starry Flower of LibertyC
-
Behold its streaming rays uniteG
One mingling flood of braided lightG
The red that fires the Southern roseH
With spotless white from Northern snowsH
And spangled o'er its azure seeC
The sister Stars of LibertyC
-
Then hail the banner of the freeC
The starry Flower of LibertyC
-
The blades of heroes fence it roundI
Where'er it springs is holy groundI
From tower and dome its glories spreadJ
It waves where lonely sentries treadJ
It makes the land as ocean freeC
And plants an empire on the seaC
-
Then hail the banner of the freeC
The starry Flower of LibertyC
-
Thy sacred leaves fair Freedom's flowerK
Shall ever float on dome and towerK
To all their heavenly colors trueL
In blackening frost or crimson dewL
And God love us as we love theeC
Thrice holy Flower of LibertyC
-
Then hail the banner of the freeC
The starry FLOWER OF LIBERTYC
