Sherman's In Savannah - A Half-rhymed Impromptu Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCCB DEFFFB GBHHHB IEJJJB

Like the tribes of IsraelA
Fed on quails and mannaB
Sherman and his glorious bandC
Journeyed through the rebel landC
Fed from Heaven's all bounteous handC
Marching on SavannahB
-
As the moving pillar shoneD
Streamed the starry bannerE
All day long in rosy lightF
Flaming splendor all the nightF
Till it swooped in eagle flightF
Down on doomed SavannahB
-
Glory be to God on highG
Shout the loud HosannaB
Treason's wilderness is pastH
Canaan's shore is won at lastH
Peal a nation's trumpet blastH
Sherman 's in SavannahB
-
Soon shall Richmond's tough old hideI
Find a tough old tannerE
Soon from every rebel wallJ
Shall the rag of treason fallJ
Till our banner flaps o'er allJ
As it crowns SavannahB
