Parting Hymn - "dundee" Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC DEDF AFAF GHGH AAAA

Father of Mercies Heavenly FriendA
We seek thy gracious throneB
To Thee our faltering prayers ascendA
Our fainting hearts are knownB
-
From blasts that chill from suns that smiteA
From every plague that harmsC
In camp and march in siege and fightA
Protect our men at armsC
-
Though from our darkened lives they takeD
What makes our life most dearE
We yield them for their country's sakeD
With no relenting tearF
-
Our blood their flowing veins will shedA
Their wounds our breasts will shareF
Oh save us from the woes we dreadA
Or grant us strength to bearF
-
Let each unhallowed cause that bringsG
The stern destroyer ceaseH
Thy flaming angel fold his wingsG
And seraphs whisper PeaceH
-
Thine are the sceptre and the swordA
Stretch forth thy mighty handA
Reign Thou our kingless nation's LordA
Rule Thou our throneless landA
