One Country Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGG HHIIJJKK BBLLHHMM

ONE country Treason's writhing aspA
Struck madly at her girdle's claspA
And Hatred wrenched with might and mainB
To rend its welded links in twainB
While Mammon hugged his golden calfC
Content to take one broken halfC
While thankless churls stood idly byD
And heard unmoved a nation's cryD
-
One country 'Nay ' the tyrant crewE
Shrieked from their dens 'it shall be twoE
Ill bodes to us this monstrous birthF
That scowls on all the thrones of earthF
Too broad yon starry cluster shinesG
Too proudly tower the New World pinesG
Tear down the 'banner of the free '-
And cleave their land from sea to sea '-
-
One country still though foe and 'friend'H
Our seamless empire strove to rendH
Safe safe' though all the fiends of hellI
Join the red murderers' battle yellI
What though the lifted sabres gleamJ
The cannons frown by shore and streamJ
The sabres clash the cannons thrillK
In wild accord One country stillK
-
One country in her stress and strainB
We heard the breaking of a chainB
Look where the conquering Nation swingsL
Her iron flail its shivered ringsL
Forged by the rebels' crimson handH
That bolt of wrath shall scourge the landH
Till Peace proclaims on sea and shoreM
One Country now and evermoreM
