Old Ironsides Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHGHICJC KLMLNOPO

Ay tear her tattered ensign downA
Long has it waved on highB
And many an eye has danced to seeC
That banner in the skyB
Beneath it rung the battle shoutD
And burst the cannon's roarE
The meteor of the ocean airF
Shall sweep the clouds no moreE
Her deck once red with heroes' bloodG
Where knelt the vanquished foeH
When winds were hurrying o'er the floodG
And waves were white belowH
No more shall feel the victor's treadI
Or know the conquered kneeC
The harpies of the shore shall pluckJ
The eagle of the seaC
-
Oh better that her shattered hulkK
Should sink beneath the waveL
Her thunders shook the mighty deepM
And there should be her graveL
Nail to the mast her holy flagN
Set every threadbare sailO
And give her to the god of stormsP
The lightning and the galeO
