An Hymn set forth to be sung by the Great AssemblyB
at Newtown Mass MoC
-
Written by OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES eldest son of RevD
ABIEL HOLMES eighth Pastor of the First Church inE
Cambridge MassachusettsF
-
LORD Thou hast led us as of oldG
Thine Arm led forth the chosen RaceH
Through Foes that raged through Floods that roll'dG
To Canaan's far off Dwelling PlaceH
-
Here is Thy bounteous Table spreadI
Thy Manna falls on every FieldJ
Thy Grace our hungering Souls hath fedI
Thy Might hath been our Spear and ShieldJ
-
Lift high Thy Buckler Lord of HostsK
Guard Thou Thy Servants Sons and SiresL
While on the Godless heathen CoastsK
They light Thine Israel's Altar firesM
-
The salvage Wilderness remoteN
Shall hear Thy Works and Wonders sungO
So from the Rock that Moses smoteN
The Fountain of the Desart sprungO
-
Soon shall the slumbering Morn awakeP
From wandering Stars of Errour freedN
When Christ the Bread of Heaven shall breakP
For Saints that own a common CreedN
-
The Walls that fence His Flocks apartN
Shall crack and crumble in DecayQ
And every Tongue and every HeartN
Shall welcome in the new born DayQ
-
Then shall His glorious Church rejoiceR
His Word of Promise to recallS
ONE SHELTERING FOLD ONE SHEPHERD'S VOICER
ONE GOD AND FATHER OVER ALLS
