God Save The Flag Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF EEEE EGEG

Washed in the blood of the brave and the bloomingA
Snatched from the altars of insolent foesB
Burning with star fires but never consumingA
Flash its broad ribbons of lily and roseB
-
Vainly the prophets of Baal would rend itC
Vainly his worshippers pray for its fallD
Thousands have died for it millions defend itC
Emblem of justice and mercy to allD
-
Justice that reddens the sky with her terrorsE
Mercy that comes with her white handed trainF
Soothing all passions redeeming all errorsE
Sheathing the sabre and breaking the chainF
-
Borne on the deluge of all usurpationsE
Drifted our Ark o'er the desolate seasE
Bearing the rainbow of hope to the nationsE
Torn from the storm cloud and flung to the breezeE
-
God bless the Flag and its loyal defendersE
While its broad folds o'er the battle field waveG
Till the dim star wreath rekindle its splendorsE
Washed from its stains in the blood of the braveG
