AUGUSTA
-
BROTHERS whom we may not reachB
Through the veil of alien speechB
Welcome welcome eyes can tellC
What the lips in vain would spellC
Words that hearts can understandD
Brothers from the Flowery LandD
-
We the evening's latest bornE
Hail the children of the mornE
We the new creation's birthF
Greet the lords of ancient earthF
From their storied walls and towersG
Wandering to these tents of oursG
-
Land of wonders fair CathayH
Who long hast shunned the staring dayH
Hid in mists of poet's dreamsI
By thy blue and yellow streamsI
Let us thy shadowed form beholdJ
Teach us as thou didst of oldJ
-
Knowledge dwells with length of daysK
Wisdom walks in ancient waysK
Thine the compass that could guideL
A nation o'er the stormy tideL
Scourged by passions doubts and fearsM
Safe through thrice a thousand yearsM
-
Looking from thy turrets grayH
Thou hast seen the world's decayH
Egypt drowning in her sandsN
Athens rent by robbers' handsN
Rome the wild barbarian's preyH
Like a storm cloud swept awayH
-
Looking from thy turrets grayH
Still we see thee Where are theyH
And to I a new born nation waitsO
Sitting at the golden gatesO
That glitter by the sunset seaP
Waits with outspread arms for theeP
-
Open wide ye gates of goldJ
To the Dragon's banner foldJ
Builders of the mighty wallQ
Bid your mountain barriers fallQ
So may the girdle of the sunR
Bind the East and West in oneR
-
Till Mount Shasta's breezes fanS
The snowy peaks of Ta Sieue ShanS
Till Erie blends its waters blueT
With the waves of Tung Ting HuT
Till deep Missouri lends its flowU
To swell the rushing Hoang HoU
