| The snow white vesture and the glittering crown | B |
| The simple plumage or the glossy down | B |
| Prompt not their loves the patriot bird pursues | C |
| His well acquainted tints and kindred hues | C |
| Hence through their tribes no mix'd polluted flame | D |
| No monster breed to mark the groves with shame | D |
| But the chaste blackbird to its partner true | E |
| Thinks black alone is beauty's favourite hue | E |
| The nightingale with mutual passion blest | F |
| Sings to its mate and nightly charms the nest | F |
| While the dark owl to court its partner flies | G |
| And owns its offspring in their yellow eyes | G |
