DESCRIPTION OF AN AUTHOR'S BEDCHAMBER | B |
- | |
- | |
WHERE the Red Lion flaring o'er the way | C |
Invites each passing stranger that can pay | C |
Where Calvert's butt and Parsons' black champagne | D |
Regale the drabs and bloods of Drury lane | D |
There in a lonely room from bailiffs snug | E |
The Muse found Scroggen stretch'd beneath a rug | E |
A window patch'd with paper lent a ray | C |
That dimly show'd the state in which he lay | C |
The sanded floor that grits beneath the tread | F |
The humid wall with paltry pictures spread | F |
The royal game of goose was there in view | G |
And the twelve rules the royal martyr drew | G |
The seasons fram'd with listing found a place | H |
And brave prince William show'd his lamp black face | H |
The morn was cold he views with keen desire | B |
The rusty grate unconscious of a fire | B |
With beer and milk arrears the frieze was scor'd | I |
And five crack'd teacups dress'd the chimney board | I |
A nightcap deck'd his brows instead of bay | C |
A cap by night a stocking all the day | C |
