A Letter To Her Father Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGFHIJKELEEMEAN OHPKQRSHPT

If I called you a knuckle dragger that'll be too extreme because I respect youA
If I said you are a shoulder to lean on I'll be hurting myself by the lie I utteredB
You aren't an ignoramus you promoted quality educationC
But what you didn't know how to do quite wellD
Was to listen to the whispers and watch out for the signsE
They say experience is the best teacherF
What is the evident outcome aside paranoiaG
I saw salt but the owner made me call it sugarF
All in the name of protection yielded by fearH
Maybe I wasn't really stubbornI
Maybe it's just you who refused to understandJ
The pound pup may attack the wolf pack that bred itK
That I'll never do because I choose to turn a blind eye to all I called your culpabilitiesE
Yes I can't tell to your face how selfish you sound some of the timeL
And how so extravagant sometimes I thought you unwiseE
For all the time I stood silent I let you spit in my faceE
I pitied you because you had a health to maintainM
Though I had too many things to sayE
I'll rather not say perhaps I chose not toA
I've been black bottling up things insideN
Good thing I knew how to fade into a cheerful yellowO
You hardly ever approved so I never saw a need to persevereH
If it was sport dance drama not involving books or studyP
Do me you a favour let's forget itK
Maybe it's a phase everyone facedQ
You set the rules of the game a duty we acceptedR
What I couldn't decipher was why you still wanted to play the gameS
On our behalf yet I don't remember us asking that favourH
Yes I love you and you love meP
But I know surely one day you'll see my handwriting written on the wallT

Poet's note: Some parents can be pretty restrictive and unreasonable in their actions- intentionally or not. Looking at things from the view of a growing teenager in this kind of setting was my inspiration for this poem. They're forced to swallow their words so they don't come off as disrespectful. Sometimes these swallowed words scars them on the inside.
