Jerusalem Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEAFGHIJKLJKMNOAM PQRMDMMSTUVMWMXYMZ

I wept until my tears were dryA
I prayed until the candles flickeredB
I knelt until the floor creakedC
I asked about Mohammed and ChristD
Oh Jerusalem the fragrance of prophetsE
The shortest path between earth and skyA
Oh Jerusalem the citadel of lawsF
A beautiful child with fingers charredG
and downcast eyesH
You are the shady oasis passed by the ProphetI
Your streets are melancholyJ
Your minarets are mourningK
You the young maiden dressed in blackL
Who rings the bells in the NativityJ
On Saturday morningK
Who brings toys for the childrenM
On Christmas eveN
Oh Jerusalem the city of sorrowO
A big tear wandering in the eyeA
Who will halt the aggressionM
On you the pearl of religionsP
Who will wash your bloody wallsQ
Who will safeguard the BibleR
Who will rescue the QuranM
Who will save ChristD
Who will save manM
Oh Jerusalem my townM
Oh Jerusalem my loveS
Tomorrow the lemon trees will blossomT
And the olive trees will rejoiceU
Your eyes will danceV
The migrant pigeons will returnM
To your sacred roofsW
And your children will play againM
And fathers and sons will meetX
On your rosy hillsY
My townM
The town of peace and olivesZ
