Good morning sweetheartA
Good morning my Saint of a sweetheartA
It has been two year motherB
since the boy has sailedC
on his mythical journeyD
Since he hid within his luggageE
the green morning of his homelandF
and her stars and her streamsG
and all of her red poppyD
Since he hid in his clothsH
bunches of mint and thymeI
and a Damascene LilacJ

I am aloneK
The smoke of my cigarette is boredL
and even my seat of me is boredL
My sorrows are like flocking birds looking for a grain field in seasonM
I became acquainted with the women of EuropeN
I became acquainted with their tired civilizationM
I toured India and I toured ChinaO
I toured the entire oriental worldP
and nowhere I foundQ
a Lady to comb my golden hairR
A Lady that hides for me in her purse a sugar candyD
A lady that dresses me when I am nakedS
and lifts me up when I fallT
Mother I am that boy who sailedC
and still longes to that sugar candyD
So how come or how can I MotherB
become a father and never grow upN

Good morning from MadridU
How is the 'Fullah'T
I beg you to take care of herB
That baby of a babyD
She was the dearest love to FatherB
He spoiled her like his daughterB
He used to invite her to his morning coffeeD
He used to feed her and water herB
and cover her with his mercyD
And when he diedV
She always dreamt about his returnW
She looked for him in the corners of his roomX
She asked about his robeY
and asked about his newspaperB
and asked when the summer cameZ
about the blue color of his eyesA2
so that she can throw within his palmsB2
her golden coinsC2

I send my best regardsD2
to a house that taught us love and mercyD
To your white flowersE2
the best in the neighborhoodF2
To my bed to my booksG2
to all of the kids in the alleyD
To all of these walls we coveredH2
with noise from our writingsI2
To the lazy cat sleeping on the balconyD
To the lilac climbing bush the neighbor's windowJ2
It has been two long years MotherB
with the face of Damascus being like a birdH2
digging within my conscienceK2
biting at my curtainsL2
and picking with a gentle beak at my fingersE2
It has been two years MotherB
since the nights of DamascusM2
the odors of DamascusM2
the houses of DamascusM2
have been inhabiting our imaginationM
The pillar lights of her mosquesN2
have been guiding our sailsO2
As if the pillars of the AmawiP2
have been planted in our heartsQ2
As if the orchards are still perfuming our conscienceK2
As if the lights and the rocksR2
have all traveled with usM2

This is September MotherB
and here is sorrow bringing me his wrapped giftsS2
Leaving at my window his tears and his concernsT2
This is September where is DamascusM2
Where is Father and his eyesA2
Where is the silk of his glancesU2
and where is the aroma of his coffeeD
May God bless his graveV2
And where is the vastness of our large houseW2
and where is its comfortX2
And where is the stairwell laughing at the tickles of bloomsY2
and where is my childhoodF2
Draggling the tail of the catZ2
and eating from the grape vineA3
and snipping from the lilacJ
-
Damascus DamascusM2
what a poem we wrote within our eyesA2
What a pretty child that we crucifiedV
We kneeled at her feetB3
and we melted in her passionM
until we killed her with loveC3
