A Quarrel With Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH AIAI FHFH GJGJ GGGG

Oh that I could write a storyA
Of love's dealing with affectionB
How he makes the spirit sorryA
That is touch'd with his infectionB
-
But he doth so closely wind himC
In the plaits of will ill pleasedD
That the heart can never find himC
Till it be too much diseasedD
-
'Tis a subtle kind or spiritE
Of a venom kind of natureF
That can like a coney ferretE
Creep unawares upon a creatureF
-
Never eye that can behold itG
Though it worketh first by seeingH
Nor conceit that can unfold itG
Though in thoughts be all its beingH
-
Oh it maketh old men wittyA
Young men wanton women idleI
While that patience weeps for pityA
Reason bite not nature's bridleI
-
What it is in conjectureF
Seeking much but nothing findingH
Like to fancy's architectureF
With illusions reason blindingH
-
Yet can beauty so retain itG
In the profit of her serviceJ
That she closely can maintain itG
For her servant chief on officeJ
-
In her eye she chiefly breeds itG
In her cheeks she chiefly hides itG
In her servant's faith she feeds itG
While his only heart abides itG
