Dear black childA
You'll grow old and goldB
You'll live the life you adoreC
You'll shimmer like goldB
You'll rule until you grow oldB
Your mama will reap the fruitD
Of her labour before she turns oldB
Forget the stories of the ancestors pastE
Yours will be different and you'll enjoyF
Every bit of it to the fullestG

Poet's note: I'm writing this poem to every black child, giving us hope that the lives of our ancestors are bygones, and that ours will be different. This poem gives me courage and I hope it does others.
