Rhyme Scheme: ABACD EADFAA GHAIJKK LMKKKKNAA EOPAK KKAAAAB QKAKKKKKARKBSA Q

Sometimes I too tell the ah'sA
of my heart one by oneB
like the blood red beadsA
of a ruby rosary strungC
on strands of golden hairD
-
But myE
poetry's museA
takes to the airD
on wings made of steelF
like the I beamsA
of my suspension bridgesA
-
I don't pretendG
the nightingale's lamentH
to the rose isn't easy on the earsA
But the languageI
that really speaks to meJ
are Beethoven sonatas playedK
on copper iron wood bone and catgutK
-
You can haveL
galloping offM
in a cloud of dustK
Me I wouldn't tradeK
for the purest bredK
Arabian steedK
the sixth mphN
of my iron horseA
running on iron tracksA
-
Sometimes my eye is caught like a big dumb flyE
by the masterly spider webs in the corners of my roomO
But I really look upP
to the seventy seven story reinforced concrete mountainsA
my blue shirted builders createK
-
Were I to meetK
the male beautyK
young Adonis god of ByblosA
on a bridge I'd probably never noticeA
but I can't help staring into my philosopher's glassy eyesA
or my fireman's square faceA
red as a sweating sunB
-
Though I can smokeQ
third class cigarettes filledK
on my electric workbenchesA
I can't roll tobacco even the finestK
in paper by hand and smoke itK
I didn'tK
wouldn't tradeK
my wife dressed in her leather cap and jacketK
for Eve's nakednessA
Maybe I don't have a poetic soulR
What can I doK
when I love my own childrenB
moreS
than mother Nature'sA
