And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself JohnA
-
-
Peter it was not outward coldB
But inward chill thy bosom frozeC
Made thee deny with falsehood boldB
Thy Lord and Master to his foesC
When we find cheer at Satan's firesD
The world is there to work us harmE
To deaden all our pure desiresD
With its deceitful lure and charmE
-
Peter the voice of chanticleerF
Fulfilled what Christ had prophesiedG
And oh that pitying look sincereF
From him whom thou hadst just deniedG
Thy burst of penitential griefH
Heaven those tears did surely sendI
Tears give the burdened heart reliefH
Dry anguish may its tendrils rendI
-
Sin soon will crucify our LordI
Thy sin and all the world's besideI
He gave himself the Living WordI
Our shelter from God's wrath to hideI
Had all the seraphs pens to writeI
Such love upon the boundless skyJ
Angelic powers could not inditeI
Its greatness while the ages flyJ
-
The hour is hastening God has willedI
That Christ should through his own decreeF
Abolish death and have fulfilledI
Our blood bought immortalityF
And when the awful tomb he rentI
When freed from every earthly thrallK
Tell Peter was the message sentI
Tell Peter 'tis love's tender callK
-
Peter was martyr to his faithL
His rock God's son whom he deniedI
This faith the key that unlocks deathM
To realms where joy and peace abideI
Tell Peter Honey drops of loveN
Awaking all the choirs of heavenO
Tell Peter angels from aboveN
Shout Hear O earth and be forgivenO
