April Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGFHIHI JKJKLMLM NONOPDPD QRQRQSQS

When April weeps she wakes the flowersA
That slept the winter throughB
Oh did they dream those frosty hoursA
That she would be untrueB
And not awaken them in timeC
To smile their smiles of loveD
To hear the robin's merry chimeC
And gentle cooing doveD
-
And when they feel their mother's tearsE
So gently o'er them weepF
Will they tell her of their simple fearsG
And visions while asleepF
And will they tell her that they dreamedH
Beneath their sheets of snowI
Such weary dreamings that it seemedH
The winter ne'er would goI
-
They'll soon be wide awake and upJ
In dainty robes arrayedK
Blue violet gold buttercupJ
And quaker lady staidK
Wild eglantine and clustering thornL
Will grace the byway lanesM
Whilst woodland flowers the dells adornL
And daisies cheer the plainsM
-
The rippling streamlet soon will beN
A crystal mirror brightO
For waving branch and mint and treeN
That nod in golden lightO
Of summer sunbeams glad'ning raysP
Filling the heart with loveD
While nature and earth uniting praiseP
The God who reigns aboveD
-
In lowly spots will lilies springQ
And scent the summer breezeR
And on the earth there'll be no kingQ
Arrayed like one of theseR
So weeping April's tears will bringQ
Her children from the tombS
Will dress the earth in robes of springQ
Brightened by fragrant bloomS
