GenesisA
-
-
The sun had set He was aloneB
Mid twilight shadows he would restC
He laid his head upon a stoneB
To woo sweet slumber for his guestC
-
Perhaps within those midnight hoursD
His rugged bed was cold and chillE
But wrapped in Dreamland's mystic powersD
He knew no danger felt no illE
-
A vision in his dreams appearedF
Angels were stepping to and froG
Upon a ladder which uprearedF
Aided their ministry belowG
-
And then God spake in words which saidF
What future ages would unfoldF
The soil on which he made his bedF
Was his by prophecy foretoldF
-
He further heard that holy voiceH
Predict that through his tribe would beI
Blessings in which all should rejoiceH
Blessings which all the world should seeI
-
Through Jacob would the gift be givenJ
Of Jesus to this sinful earthK
God signified within this visionJ
Glad news of our Redeemer's birthK
-
The star of Bethlehem would shineL
That star of joy and peace and loveM
Our bleeding sacrifice divineL
To cleanse our hearts our guilt removeN
-
If faith and praise in us aboundF
Toward Israel's God angels are nearO
His word declares they camp aroundF
All those who look to him in fearO
-
When Jacob woke the ground he trodF
Seemed holy and he named his stoneB
Bethel which means the house of GodF
With heaven so near was he aloneB
