In The Wilderness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHGH CAAA IHFH JEDE CKJK

Alone in desert drearyA
A bird with folded wingsB
Beholds the waste about herC
And sweetly sweetly singsB
-
So heaven sweet her singingD
So clear the bird notes flowE
'Twould seem the rocks must wakenF
The desert vibrant growE
-
Dead rocks and silent mountainsG
Would'st waken with thy strainH
But dumb are still the mountainsG
And dead the rocks remainH
-
For whom O heavenly singerC
Thy song so clear and freeA
Who hears or sees or heeds theeA
Who feels or cares for theeA
-
Thou may'st outpour in musicI
Thy very soul 'Twere vainH
In stone thou canst not wakenF
A throb of joy or painH
-
Thy song shall soon be silencedJ
I feel it For I knowE
Thy heart is near to burstingD
With loneliness and woeE
-
Ah vain is thine endeavorC
It naught availeth nayK
For lonely as thou camestJ
So shalt thou pass awayK
