Once again my songs I sing theeA
Now the spell is brokenB
Brothers yet again I bring theeA
Songs of love the tokenB
Of my joy and of my sorrowC
Gladly sadly bringingD
Summer not a song would borrowC
Winter sets me singingD
-
O when life turns sad and lonelyA
When our joys are deadE
When are heard the ravens onlyA
In the trees o'erheadE
When the stormwind on the bowersF
Wreaks its wicked willG
When the frost paints lying flowersF
How should I be stillG
-
When the clouds are low descendingD
And the sun is drownedE
When the winter knows no endingD
And the cold is crownedE
When with evil gloom oppressedE
Lie the ruins bareH
When a sigh escapes the breastE
Takes us unawareH
-
When the snow wrapped mountain dreamsI
Of its summer gladnessI
When the wood is stripped and seemsI
Full of care and sadnessI
When the songs are growing stillG
As in Death's reposeI
And the heart is growing chillG
And the eyelids closeI
-
Then O then I can but singD
For I dream her comingD
May sweet May I see her bringD
Buds and wild bee hummingD
Through the silence heart appallingD
As I stand and listenB
I can hear her song birds callingD
See her green leaves glistenB
-
Thus again my songs I sing theeA
Now the spell is brokenB
Brothers yet again I bring theeA
Of my love the tokenB
Of my joy and of my sorrowC
Gladly sadly bringingD
Summer not a song would borrowC
Winter sets me singingD
