The Palm Branch Of Palestine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Palm branch of Palestine oh tell meA
In that far distant home land fairB
Wast rooted in the mountain gravelC
Or sprung from some vale garden rareB
-
Once o'er the Jordan's silver billowsD
Fond kissed with thee the Eastern sunE
Have the grim gales 'neath starry heavensF
Swept over thee from LebanonE
-
And was a trembling prayer soft whisperedG
A father's song sung over theeA
When from the parent stem dis severedG
By some poor aborigineA
-
And is the palm tree ever standingH
Amid the fierce glare beating downI
The pilgrim in the desert luringH
To shelter 'neath her shadow crownI
-
Perhaps the leaves ancestral shiverJ
In unappeased parting painK
The branch conceals a homesick longingH
For desert wilderness againL
-
Was it a pilgrim who first brought theeA
To the cold North with pious handM
Who mused upon his home in sadnessN
And dost thou bear his tear's hot brandM
-
Was it Jehovah's favored warriorJ
His gleaming head transfigured brightO
For God and man true sworn devotedP
Unto the victory of lightO
-
Before the wonder working imageQ
Thou stand'st as heaven's defence divineR
O branch from out that holy countryA
The sanctuary's shield and signR
-
It darkens golden lamp light splendorsN
Enveil the cross the sacred shrineR
The peace of God is wafted o'er usN
From thee oh branch of PalestineR
