Where crime s inseparable from fateB
Where beauty only blossoms to grow searA
Where all is miserable where without fearA
No one can either love or hateB
Know st thou Tam ra what is mortal loveC
A febrile movement of the bloodD
Years roll away the pulse can scarcely moveE
Love s wither d branches cease to budD
Who can resist new beauty s luring baitB
Who parting never shed a tearF
Who can withstand the tedium of fateB
The weariness of all things hereG
No my beloved believe tis not thy lotH
To perish in a living graveI
In silence languish on this narrow spotH
Of brutal jealousy the slaveI
